The Xian Airport is about 43 miles from downtown Xian, so sit back, and enjoy the scenery. After you arrive at your hotel in Xian and check-in at the front desk you will have some free time to relax in your hotel room, walk around a little to get acquainted with the location of the restaurants, or freshen up for dinner. Lang Bridge (Veranda Bridge) Moon View Pavilion Known as "the Venice of China", Zhujiajiao Water Town preserves many of the ancient traditions when much of the travel in China between cities and towns was by water on rivers and canals. You will find the bridges in Zhujiajiao Water Town to be of particular interest for their architecture as well as their utility in traversing from one part of Zhujiajiao to another. Children can take part in one or two programs of their own choosing when they can pass an entry examination and pay a small sum of money for one term. Programs available include music, dance, art, model making, science, technology and computer science. The children, ranging from 5 to 14 years old, come from all walks of life, and are normally encouraged to take an entry exam when identified as "gifted" by their regular school teachers. The palace is in fact a part of China's social welfare because the government offers some financial support to the palace. You can find this kind of palace in many large and medium-sized cities in China. They assist the country in training many gifted children. Nanjing Road May Day Parade - Nanjing Road The largest city in China, Shanghai contains the most striking blend of oriental and western cultures and of the past and present. In this city, European-style buildings can be seen standing alongside typical Chinese structures and ancient temples. Modern ocean-going vessels sail past junks. A flourishing commercial and industrial center, Shanghai has a population of over 16 million and a land area of 3,355 square miles. Although early records indicate that a settlement was founded during the Song Dynasty (960-1380 AD), at a time when invaders from the north were retreating to their own borders, it remained a small fishing village and did not become a town until the mid-13th century. Compared with other major cities in China it has had a relatively short history.
